Hello everyone,

I am again returning to the saying that I have often referred to, which is to learn from the animals. If our animals are getting the same diseases as we are, we need to address the cause rather than the symptoms.

In the animals case it is the food. In our case food also plays a huge factor, and often when there is a health problem if we are lucky we are guided to change our diet as well.

Food is the driver behind our health. As Hippocrates said in the 5th century BC, " leave your drugs in the pot if you can heal with food ".

Just to let you know that the FDA has announced it's intention to hold a meeting not yet disclosed on time and date, to discuss the ingredients, processing, and the labelling standards to ensure the safety of food for our pets.

There will be a link provided thru the FDA in order for you the consumer to leave comments prior to the meeting.

That brings me back to the Badge of Honesty which I have mentioned before.

Until these companies are prepared to fully disclose ALL ingredients in their products, I for one am not interested in purchasing it for my pets.

Another thought on the cleaning of our pets teeth. According to Dr. Tom Lonsdale in his article in Nexus Nov-Dec 2007, he states that "Periodental disease is arguably the most common disease condition seen in small animal practice and its effects on the gums and teeth can significantly affect the health and well being of affected animals".

This in itself gives rise to concern, and therefore "proof of additional systemic effects is not necessary to justify further action".

I know it sounds funny when one says that most pets that eat junk pet food never clean their teeth, but it's true.

I mean think about it. I never had Ishka's teeth cleaned until last year. She was 20 years old. Could you imagine going 20 years without cleaning your teeth?.

Impossible right?.

According to Dr. Tom Lonsdale in his article from Nexus Nov-Dec 2007,he states that " By simply cleaning diseased teeth and gums and changing pets over to a more natural diet, otherwise intractable
diseases disappear-never to recur".

Hello everyone,

Two of the largest chocolate manufacturers Mars and Nestle are on the top of the pet food industry.

I personally do not eat anything from these manufactures due to the perservatives and additives that they use in their products, which have been linked to Liver damage. Their chocolate also contains wax.

Keep in mind that commercial pet foods success in the business world is probably only bettered by petroleum products worldwide. That's scary!.

Saw a couple of cute pics today of cats and dogs together, and read a story on Itcmo about a dog who dug up his cat friend after their owner had buried the cat that had passed away. He was heartbroken over his loss.

I thought to myself what a beautiful love story, and how cats and dogs really do get along.

How funny that the dog plays like he's not interested, and the cat plays hard to get.

When all they both want is love in their life, and are happy to be someone's pet.

In the city that I live they have deemed this Year of the Cat.

A couple of things have come to light since the last time I blogged.

The first, is that Ishka's Thyroid reading was a little high, and it was suggested to put her on a small dosage of thyrax, when a seperate test was done. I am so lucky that my vet is open minded,(she has also bought 4 purple circles for her dogs), and sees how well Ishka is doing. She thinks that it is awesome.

I impulsively thought about it, and then struggled as I have been doing so well with her to date using alternative methods.

Well, we received the blood work back today from Ishka's blood tests, and she passed with flying colors.

I knew that it was going to be good but I didn't know that it would be this good.

In May of 2005 Ishka's Creatin level was 201.
In May 2006 it was 264.
In Jan 2007 it was 386.
In Jan 2008 it is 144.

I was amazed that her levels had gone down so much, as she is now healthier than she was 3 years ago.

Her heart and lungs auscultate fine. Abdominal palpation is good.

Well, I had planned my day to take Ishka to the Clinic for her annual bloodwork. I was so excited to finally have an update, I could hardly contain myself. However, my day as planned quickly changed with a heartbreaking twist.

Back to last night when I was visiting my mum and her beautiful kitties, we tried to cut Sacha's toenails. This has been done many times before, with no problem, but things were different this night.

Here we have the last two reasons of how we are poisoning our pets.

As we know each human body is unique. Therefore, one's reaction to certain drugs or food can be different. Well my friends, our pets are no different.

As Dr. Tom Lonsdale says in his article Junk Pet Food:recipe for cruelty and disease-Nexus-Nov-Dec 2007, "some pets show signs of ill health after a short time of consuming junk food".

For instance, puppies frequently suffer from bad skin and diarhea. This is the beginning of the long poison.

Here we are with the third way that our pets are being poisoned.
I have broken them for an easier read.

Dr. Tom Lonsdale states the "poorly digested grain-based junk food supports a large population of toxin-producing bacteria in the lower bowel. The bowel lining, in constant contact with poisons, may be adversely affected. Some poisons pass through the bowel wall into the blood circulation, are then carried to other organs and create further problems."

This brings us back to the previous blog written with respect to the blood of our pet friends.

1. Canned soft foods, and grain based kibble do not clean teeth. In fact, food sludge sticks to teeth and feeds the bacteria in dental plaque.
